Nora Parsons Centre
Christmas Raffle drawn on 16th December 2020
Everyone at Nora Parsons Centre would like to thank all those who supported our Christmas Raffle which was so successful that 1000 tickets were sold with minimal expenses so a tremendous boost to our funds! We would especially like to thank Richard Goodman for the donation of a Goodmans Turkey and local Artist Margaret Burns for her donation of a beautifully decorated coffee table.
See the attached list of winners:
We are still unable to reopen of course, but the committee have furnished the Centre to a high Covid safe level and are perusing news bulletins for any helpful advice on how and when it could be done. Perhaps when we are all vaccinated there will be a let up in the rules of congregating.
Very Best wishes for a Better New Year Pam Morgan
Provides respite to families and friends by looking after adults on Mondays and Thursdays between 10am - 3pm. Coffee, tea, biscuits plus a hot meal are provided for £10 per day. This service is provided for 21 local villages.
Nora Parsons Centre is based in Wichenford and is totally operated by volunteers, providing safe and comfortable environment two days per week for isolated and lonely persons living in surrounding villages.
The members enjoy armchair exercise classes, talks, playing games, etc. We have a visiting hairdresser and a podiatrist too. We interact with local schools and organisations, who provide entertainment, for example at Christmas, Easter or Harvest time.
Most important however is the opportunity to socially interact with others, including the volunteer drivers and helpers. They have a two course lunch and refreshments are available throughout the day.
Transport can be provided, if required. We always need more volunteer drivers and if you feel that you would be able to spare as little as 1 hour per week or month on a Monday or a Thursday at 9.30am or 3.00pm, please contact us under 01886 888 374 - a mileage allowance will be paid.
Although Nora Parsons Centre is located in Wichenford, it caters for a wide area, welcoming members from the parishes of: Abberley, Astley & Dunley, Broadwas, Clifton upon Teme, Cotheridge, Doddenham, Great Witley & Hillhampton, Grimley, Hallow, Holt, Kenswick & Wichenford, Knightwick, Little Witley, Lower Broadheath, Martley, Rushwick, The Shelsleys and Shrawley.

The Centre has two outings in the year partially funded by the members from their Bingo sessions and partially from donations specifically given for the members.
These are organised by our volunteers and much enjoyed by the members. On the 20th of June we went to Ralph Court Gardens - to see pictures from the outing see this link: Ralph Court Gardens Outing.

The Worcestershire Lions Charitable Fund awarded the Centre with a grant towards the double glazing installations and Pat Wilkinson and Pam Morgan attended at The Mayor's Parlour in the Guildhall Worcester to be presented with a cheque by the Mayor. Grateful thanks to the Worcestershire Lions.
The High Sheriff of Worcestershire at the time, Cassian Roberts, visited the Centre in all his regalia and delighted the members with a talk about the office of the High Sheriff. Afterwards a donation from his charitable fund was made to the Centre towards the double glazing installation. Thank you High Sheriff.
It all started in 1977 when Nora Parsons, a retired district nurse, realised there were many older people in her area who spent much of their time alone, who would benefit from some company in a safe and comfortable environment with similar folk, with a chance to chat over a cup of coffee and enjoy a meal in the company of others. With the help of friends and volunteers, and the support of Canon Bartlett, then the Vicar of Wichenford, the care centre was established, first in the Village Hall, then moving to the current building when the village school closed. The centre is run entirely by volunteers. There are currently around 20 members attending the Centre.
The centre is available the other days - apart from Mondays and Thursdays.
