Bluebell Ride

The Bluebell Ride has been a fixture in the village calendar for years. Begun by Colonel & Mrs Britten and supported by local farmers Philip and the late Sue Gibbs it was more of a social event at first - to come and look at the bluebells.

Mrs Britten would drive round with her haflingers and carriage at the same time. Pony clubs and livery stables etc. in the area were all invited to take part. It attracts about 200 riders over the weekend and raises money for the St Richards Hospice, the Air Ambulance (they need £7,500 for each lift off), and for various village charities. Run by Mrs G Britten-Long it is kept open for the following Saturday and Sunday, if the weather is good, to raise more money but ONLY by appointment.

On average they raise about £4,000- £5,000 each year depending on sponsorship. The Ride is a good 11 miles of track which is carefully prepared, jumps are created and put out, and the route is clearly way-marked, so the riders don’t get lost. Volunteers on quad bykes constantly go round monitoring the course and the riders in case of problems. Volunteers also provide parking, refreshments and safe crossings of public roads.

In 2016 the Ride will take place on the 8th May - to see the Poster   click here  ».
